Sunday 4th. July 2010
We left Zadar at about 8:30am after the tour group ahead of us had devastated the morning dining room leaving it littered with empty plates, cups etc, and we had to clear a few tables and wait for the self serve food to be replenished before we could eat. The estimated maximum is supposed to be close to the mid 30˚C mark.
Our first stop was Sibenik. This is another coastal town with many narrow, steep winding streets and expensive yachts moored in the marinas. We had a look inside the Cathedral of St. James between two scheduled Sunday masses. It was very ornate inside with a stone vaulted roof. We had a look and took a photo in the Baptistry, before setting off to explore the town and take photos.
After lunch we passed Trogir (and complained that the driver was driving too quickly) on our way to Salona which is about 5kms from Split and renowned for its Roman Ruins. Unfortunately, we couldn't see the Amphitheatre as the road was closed.
We arrived at the Hotel at about 4:00pm. We have a suite which is very nice but only a weak WiFi internet connection.
Tonight nine more people join our tour group, making us a touring party of fifteen, and so we have another welcoming dinner in Split.

We left left the hotel at 7:30am to catch the ferry from Split to the Island of Brac. The ferry journey took about 45 minutes and we landed, with the bus, at Supetar. From here we drove up to the tallest part of the island and looked down over the island of Hvar and immediately below us the beach at Golden Cove.

From there we drove to Praznica which is where the pure white marble and limestone for the White House and the Pentagon building in the USA was sourced. Then on to Pucisca. This is a picturesque seafront village the has a school of masonary.
The whole island is covered in heaps of stones and the buildings are made of cut and dressed white limestone. It is very dry, although in some of the valleys we saw some established vineyards, and a large vineyard just being planted near the top of one of the hills. The rest of the vegetation consisted mainly of olive trees and some very stunted pine trees; it is very dry and amazing to us that anything grows there. We had lunch at a beautiful restaurant that seemed to be in the middle of nowhere, but the meal was excellent and the stonework in the buildings wonderful.
We then moved onto the town of Bol.
Again it is a very picturesque Adriatic town.
The temperature was in the 30's and the humidity very high making sightseeing very tiring. So we drove the bus to Golden Cove and had a swim in the Adriatic Sea for about an hour.

We then drove back to Supetar to catch the 6:00pm ferry back to Split.

We had a light meal at a restaurant called Luna's and caught a bus back to the hotel. We arrived home at about 9:30pm. Again we were told that the WiFi was not working today. I suspect it never works, however, I looked behind the TV set on the desk and found a cable connection point that worked!!
